There were smiles all round when the KidzWish Fairy made a surprise visit to Wollongong Hospital Children’s Ward.
On Tuesday 20 December 2011, The KidzWish Fairy spent the day bringing lots of love and laughter to local sick children when she entertained them by singing Christmas Carols and handing out early Christmas presents.
KidzWish general manager Simon Davie said Christmas is a time when children love to spend time with their family at home. However, this pleasure is not possible for everyone and for the sick children that spend Christmas in hospital it can be an especially tough time for both the child and their families.
“KidzWish is committed to providing support to the special children here in the Illawarra and this year, thanks to the Greater Building Society, we will be visiting the children in Wollongong Hospital to bring some love and laughter to those that need it most,” Mr Davie said.
Wollongong Hospital’s Co-Director Mothers and Children, Deborah Cameron, said spreading Christmas cheer amongst the hospital’s youngest patients is heart-warming.
“Spending time in hospital is always difficult for children, even more so at Christmas. We’d like to thank KidzWish for their continued support of Wollongong Hospital Children’s Ward and bringing a smile to the faces of young patients and their families,” Ms Cameron said.
KidzWish Gold Sponsors, Greater Building Society, provided the toys and sponsored the event. The Wollongong branch manager Gary Luck will help KidzWish to distribute the presents along with KidzWish Ambassador Mick Lowe, surfing champion.
“At Christmas time it’s easy to get caught up in our own problems but it is so important to spare a moment to think of those that don’t get to enjoy the same experiences as everyone else. The Greater Hospital visits help make Christmas special for the children that have extra challenges to overcome and give them something to smile about,” Mr Davie said.
