KidzWish have installed a 9m Christmas tree as a celebration of reaching a record number of over 3,500 local sick, disabled and disadvantaged children registered to attend the 2011 Stockland KidzWish Christmas Party for Special Children.
On Friday 4 November 2011, the Illawarra’s largest Christmas tree was installed thanks to funding and support from Greater Building Society customers and staff.
KidzWish General Manager Simon Davie said KidzWish is a self funded organisation, depending completely on the generosity of individuals and organisations like the Greater to help bring a ray of light to special children with significant challenges.
“The Greater Building Society have been a massive supporter of the special children of the Illawarra and for them to provide the funding for this tree on top of everything else they contribute is testament to their commitment to these special children,” Mr Davie said.
Greater Building Society Illawarra regional manager Greg Creagan said the Greater was pleased to again be funding the installation of the Christmas tree on behalf of its Illawarra customers and staff.
“The Greater Building Society has been part of the Illawarra community for 30 years and we always strive to give back to the communities in which we operate,” Mr Creagan said.
“We hope the Greater KidzWish Christmas Tree brings joy to the people of the Illawarra and is a symbol of the great work being done by KidzWish for some great kids and their families,” he said.
KidzWish supporters, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW), installed the tree.
FRNSW Illawarra Acting Zone Commander, Inspector Tom Morrison, said local fire-fighters continued to be proud supporters of the children’s charity and were pleased to be able to assist with erecting the giant Christmas tree.
“Our fire and rescue officers spend a great deal of time out in the community educating children about fire safety and this is a wonderful opportunity to do something special for our most vulnerable kids,” Inspector Morrison said. |
